Boat wind sensor reading incorrectly: troubleshooting

Separate mounting, power and data problems before replacing a sensor.

Describe the symptoms

Record whether direction, speed or both fail, and whether the problem is continuous. Compare screens to see if the issue affects the network or only one application.

Check connections and settings

With equipment disconnected where appropriate, inspect wiring and corrosion. Check power, source selection, units and orientation against the manufacturer manual.

Verify before replacing

Check whether fresh data reaches the gateway and whether maintenance or calibration is needed. Mast work has risks; use qualified personnel where appropriate.

Isolate the failing section

If the original display and application fail together, investigate sensor, cable and power. If the original display changes but the application does not, inspect the data output, gateway and selected source. Record tests before disconnecting anything and do not work on live circuits without appropriate preparation.

When to stop and get help

If there is corrosion, damaged cable, inaccessible equipment or uncertainty about power, stop and consult a technician. For mast work, prepare a safe access procedure and deck support.
